Clipper Handy Pool offers members global reach through Clipper Bulk’s major chartering hubs – Copenhagen, Hong Kong, and Houston – supported by representatives in Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, and Oslo. Being an active player in local shipping centers gives us better access to the global deal-flow.
Geared tonnage is our core business, and Clipper Bulk’s long-term commitment to Handyzize empowers us to be a stable, consolidating factor in a fragmented market. We offer owners economies of scale and premium earnings, while they retain full asset control and flexibility. Risk management is reflected in everything we do.
Handysize has been part of Clipper Bulk from day one. We launched the first Handysize pool in 1998 and the current set-up was established in 2012. We know the global Handysize trade inside out. We always look for ways to make it easier for customers and partners to do business with us, and we have long-term partnerships with clients, brokers, technical managers, and other commercial managers.
Clipper Handy Pool has consistently outperformed the Baltic Handysize Index (BHSI) over the years. We maximize earnings through vessel positioning, timing, and duration of fixtures. Pool members benefit from Clipper’s well-established trades and routes, including logs from Australia and New Zealand, steel from North Western Europe to the USA/Mexico Gulf, fertilizers to South America and agricultural products to North Africa. Back-haul cargoes enable cross trade and repositioning of tonnage between the basins.
Agricultural products and fertilizer account for more than a third of our cargo volumes. Other important commodities include grain, petcoke, forest products, coal and concentrates.
We offer full transparency on profit sharing among members, based on pool points reflecting each vessel’s performance, specifications, and earnings potential. Pool points are updated quarterly.
We assign a dedicated operator to pool members and the operator continuously interacts with owners to secure each vessel’s integrity and optimize its performance. Throughout each journey, we keep owners updated with reports and energy deviation alerts. To ensure that each vessel’s potential is fully exploited, we offer members access to COACH Solutions’ complete solution for Noon-Reporting, Vessel Performance & Weather Routing.
We rely on the partnership with an experienced technical manager for problem solving and advice. For pool members requiring a fully integrated approach to commercial and technical management, we offer technical management through this partnership.
