As a maritime player with a global presence at sea and on shore, we recognize our social, environmental, and ethical responsibility. The prime focus areas for our CSR policy are:
• We never compromise the safety of our employees at sea or ashore
• We recognize our responsibility towards the environment, and endeavor to constantly reduce our environmental footprint.
We have always strived to impact communities positively and make sustainability an integral part of our operations, strategy, and culture. In 2016, we started taking a more structured approach as we became a participant in United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). We continue to structure our CSR activities and reporting according to the 10 principles of UNGC, while we also seek to contribute to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
To support our overall objectives, we have a framework of policies and we have set down specific 2020-22 goals for diversity, retention rates, spills, emissions, and anti-corruption.
As we continue to strengthen our CSR efforts and walk the talk, we engage in networks and fora with fellow shipping companies to set industry standards. Clipper is an active member of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) and we enforce our own anti-corruption policy through staff training.
Seatruck Ferries has implemented safety management systems on all owned vessels and ensures crew safety training on an ongoing basis.
While Clipper Bulk today is an operator with only limited ownership of vessels, we remain committed to the safety and rights of crew onboard Clipper-operated vessels. Whenever possible, we include a clause in our Charter Party agreements stipulating fair working conditions and respecting seafarers’ human rights in accordance with IMEC (International Maritime Employers’ Council), ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) and other organizations.
Through Danish Shipping, we strongly support the greenhouse gas reduction strategy adopted by UN’s International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2018.
A major effort to reducing air emissions is our development of COACH Solutions, a performance monitoring and voyage planning system designed to lower fuel consumption. Several shipping companies today rely on COACH Solutions. We divested the COACH Solutions spin-off in 2020, but we continue to apply the system on owned, part-owned and long-term chartered dry bulk vessels as well as vessels from pool partners.
